uses OpenSSL for https communications, OpenBSD or Enterprise Linux servers (no Microsoft servers used). No system can guarantee 100% security, but this is a giant step above many application service providers. Near-realtime online backup at alternate location available.
Access Management - volunteers, staff, managers and admins
Logging - transactions logged
About Open Source
Although Campsite is proprietary software, it is built on top of the best available open source technologies, including:
UNIX OpenBSD Operating System (alt: Linux or MacOS X)
OpenBSD is not a UNIX clone, it's based on the original Berkley System Distribution, but it's undergone a thorough line-by-line security review.
Apache Web Server
The most popular web server on the internet, and for a reason.
MySQL Database Server
Speed, scalability, SQL standard. Incredible product at any price.
PHP Programming Language
One of the fastest growing open source languages, PHP was designed from the groud up to build dynamic websites.
OpenSSL encryption
Scrutinized by experts, OpenSSL provides professional grade security used by commercial websites worldwide.
How it Works:
1. Base data for the district is loaded from the Secretary of State file. All value-added data entered by campaign workers is stored separately from master database.
2. Users are set up to be able to generate walk or call lists of precincts to be contacted.
Generate Contact List:

Sample Call List:

3. Volunteers are identified based on their activity sign-ups and availability.
Edit Volunteer:
4. As precincts are canvassed, results can be batch processed by street and precinct:
Batch Edit Voters:
Or manually edited to set rank, e-mail, notes, etc.
Edit Voter:
5. Managers can track overall contact counts:
Contact Manager:
Users can add contacts:
Voter Contacts:
Which are automatically reflected in the detail of the Contact Manager view shown above:
Contact Manager Example:
6. As the volunteer base grows, more precincts can be canvassed, and GOTV volunteers identified:
Volunteer Summary:
Volunteers can be searched by task and schedule, for example, allowing Field Staff the ability to find all the volunteers in a given precinct who signed up to do phone bank calls in the evening.
Volunteer List:
Plus, sending e-mail to all volunteers, or just those from a particular subset, is as easy as clicking one link (note the link at the bottom of the previous screen, "BCC to Entire List").
Volunteer E-mail:
7. As soon as Absentee Ballots are available, GOTV efforts begin. Campsite gives Field Managers specific information about each precinct for use up to and on Election Day!
GOTV Overview:

Each voter's ballot status can be tracked, including the ability to batch enter absentee ballot request lists provided by the county.

Finally, please note that all edits to the database are logged, as well as other types of special accesses such as spreadsheet generation.
